How to Boost Your Luck in 2013

As the New Year approaches, you may find yourself thinking over the past year and you may be counting your blessings or thinking about what you could have done differently.  Whatever the case, it's important to start the New Year off on a positive, hope-filled note.

The Chinese New Year is a time for gathering with the family to say goodbye to things that no longer serve us and welcome in a new, prosperous year.

Every new year, every person on earth has two opportunities to start anew - the Western New Year of January 1st and on the Chinese New Year. This will give all of us a chance to clean up and clear out our houses, get our goals and priorities in order, and make the most of our home or office.

Get rid of all the clutter and unnecessary things which get accumulated in the house from time to time. This will ensure that the vibrant energy of life will remain fresh and new in your home and surroundings. Make as much space as possible.  You cannot bring in new things if there is no room for it. Make your space "open" for the abundance of the New Year!Consider the "Money Tree". Then write your wishes for the coming New Year on the ribbons and then tie them to the branches. It should be understood that by writing down your goals and wishes that the greatest chance will occur that your wishes and dreams will come to fruition. Do this eve of the day before the New Year.

It is bad Feng Shui to have an empty refrigerator and pantry. Stock the refrigerator with foods and make sure the pantry is also stocked. Mandarin Oranges/Kiat kiat are excellent symbols for the New Year. Place a big bowl of oranges in the living room or central location in the house next to dishes of nuts or candies to symbolize an abundant, fruitful home.

Place a 8-rods Windchime in the Northwest corner of your home, office, or bedroom to bring good tidings from helpful people. Having helpful people can mean a few things. These people can come in the form of mentors, friends, customers, and hired help. You can also place a silver box with names of people you'd like to help you inside.

You don't want to go into the New Year with an empty wallet.  Put some money in your wallet -- or better yet -- go and buy a new wallet or purse and start your financial off with new energy!

Putting up "Door Guardians" on the front doors is to prevent entry of negative energies and allow positive energies into our home.

Welcome the New Year by lighting 9-wishes wishing candles, burn-burning 9 sticks of wishing incense and doing the wish-fullfilling paper ritual (compose of three separate wishing papers for fortune, health and harmony). Number 9 sounds like the Chinese word for longevity, near-coming or future luck and represents fulfillment or completion. This ritual is a symbolic way of letting go of mistakes and failures of the past and bringing a new start into one's life.
